Mauricio
Villazón Díaz, was born in Mexico and studies cello with Andrew Smith at the
University of Las Vegas Nevada. His former teachers include Moonlight Tran and
Owen Carman. His chamber music coaches include Anthony Elliot, Melissa Kraut,
Eric Larsen, Patricia McCarty, Gerardo Ribiero, and Steven Rochen. Mauricio attended
Meadow mount school of Music for three summers and was an assistant teacher for
two of the three summers.
Mauricio is an extensive performer and has performed both as a soloist and chamber musician in Las Vegas, Nevada; Plattsburg, New York; the Au Sable Club and Crater Club in New York, and at SUNY-Plattsburgh. Villazon taught at the Las Vegas 2nd annual Cello Day Festival held at the Las Vegas Academy and won 2nd place at the annual Bolognini Cello Competition. Mauricio is currently a faculty member of Violin Outlet, performs locally in Las Vegas, is Principal cellist of the UNLV Symphony Orchestra, and is cellist of the "Fire and Ice Trio."
